Streaming music isn't cheap, but this new Apple Music offer can take a big bite out of the cost. If you've never subscribed to Apple Music before and you own an iPhone, iPad or Mac, here's how you can save £63 on six months of the streaming service.

While it's possible to sometimes get one to three months of Apple Music for free, this is the strongest deal we've seen if you know you'll want it for six months – just £2.99, instead of the usual £65.94 (£10.99 a month). If that's music to your ears, you'll be happy to hear claiming the offer can be done (Taylor) Swiftly...

Open the Apple Music app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac (it needs to be running the latest software) before 11.59pm on Thursday 27 February and sign in using your Apple account. You should see the 'Get 6 months for £2.99' promotion appear immediately (see image), but if it doesn't, Apple says to go to the 'Home' tab, where it'll appear. Select 'Accept Now' and follow the sign up instructions.

Important: After six months you'll be automatically enrolled into a full-price subscription, currently costing £10.99 a month, unless you cancel, so don't forget to do this if you don't want to keep it. See our Free music streaming guide to see if you can nab a free trial for similar services such as Spotify and Amazon Music.

Quick questions

I'm eligible for three months' free Apple Music, can I still claim this offer? Sadly not. You may be eligible for three months' free if you've bought a new Apple device (and you claim the offer within 90 days of activating your device), but Apple says you won't be able to get six months for £2.99.

What if I don't have an iPhone, iPad or Mac? You can get one month for free instead – less fruitful but still not a bad Apple saving.

What is Apple Music? Similar to Spotify Premium, it has a large catalogue of music (over 100 million songs it says) that you can stream ad-free on-or-offline via the Apple Music app or the Apple Music website.
