First logo10 First Great Western single ticket saleFor Oct-Dec travel along London-Bristol line. Eg, 20rtn Lon-Bath

If you go online to First Great Western or to a ticket office until Sat 19 Sep, you could get £10 single train tickets for travel between London Paddington and the Bristol/Bath area (see map below, or go to First Great Western for the full map). It's valid for travel between Thu 1 Oct and Thu 10 Dec and there were 25,000 single tickets still available as of Tue 15 Sep.

First Great Western says the £10 tickets are spread across all dates, but the majority are for off-peak trains (those leaving London Paddington after 8.10am Mon-Fri and all weekend), with some peak (those leaving Paddington before 8.10am and between 4.40pm and 6.30pm Mon-Fri), but these will have lower availability.

Where can I travel from/to?

The main routes available are between London Paddington (and other stations in 'Section 2') and Bristol Parkway and Weston-super-Mare (and other stations in 'Section 1'). See the map below or 'more info' for a list of all stations included. IMPORTANT: Make sure you search the exact name of the station (eg, London Paddington NOT London All) in order to see the £10 fares.

The five stations (Didcot Parkway to Tilehurst) in the N/A section are not included in the offer and you can’t travel between stations in the same section, so this £10 ticket offer is mainly for longer journeys – but shorter journeys are often cheaper than £10 anyway.

How much can I save?

There are decent savings to be had with this offer, as tickets can cost £40 each way on some routes. You’ll need to find two £10 singles to get the cheapest return trip. When we checked on Wed 2 Sep, discounted tickets we spotted include:

  • £20 standard return London Paddington to Bristol Parkway, depart 8.15am Mon 2 Nov, rtn 7.01pm - next cheapest for same time on same train, £35 standard.
  • £20 standard return London Paddington to Weston-super-Mare, depart 7.45am Fri 2 Oct, rtn 7.27pm Sun 4 Oct - next cheapest for same time on same train, £39 standard.
  • £20 standard return Bath Spa to London Paddington, depart 6.13pm Fri 9 Oct, rtn 8.03pm Sun 11 - next cheapest for same time on same train,  £29 standard.

It's important to check you'd save money on your chosen route, especially if it's a shorter journey. When we checked on Wed 2 Sep an advance single ticket from Swindon to Reading was available for £6 for travel on Fri 2 Oct at 1.41pm, so you'd not save with this offer.
